SURELEVATION CARL-VOGT JONCTION

BUILDING SURELEVATION OFFERING A PANORAMIC VIEW ON THE CITY

Located in Plainpalais, the building dates from the 1970s and consists of 117 apartments ranging from studios to 4-room apartments, mainly rented to students or seniors. The project master, who’s also the owner, wanted to raise the building to diversify its housing offer, including apartments ranging from 5 to 8 rooms, in a developing area. He took advantage of this extension to renovate the lobby and improve common areas. The construction took place without crane, with the tenants housed in situ.

The facades of the existing sawtooth building being complex, we decided to create a simple and refined volume, an octagonal box placed attic. Its geographical situation in the district, at the head of the island, allowed us to develop open spaces on 3 orientations and to create 360 ° panoramic views of the city of Geneva. Balcony-loggias make up a continuous headband while turning on the gable facade and come prolonger stays housing.

The duplex apartments are organized on the lower level by the day areas. A wooden staircase with a glass roof serves the floors where the private spaces are located. On the top floor, the depth of the building offered the possibility of creating outdoor patios, in the center of the volume where some rooms open. The typology of duplex housing has eliminated the common areas of the top floor and thus optimizes the living space.
